Benazir Bhutto International Airport is Pakistan’s third largest airport located outside the capital, Islamabad. Before June 2008 it was named as ‘Islamabad International Airport’. It is serving both Rawalpindi and Islamabad passengers because it is basically located in the area of Chaklala, Rawalpindi.
This airport is able to handle about 11 big aircraft with an extra five parking spaces available. Boeing 747-8 and Airbus A380 cannot be handled by this airport because of the shortage of space. There are no airbridges at all so the available buses take passengers to the aircraft.
Benazir Bhutto International Airport welcomes both general and VIPs including military officials, foreign diplomats, etc. Both domestic and international passengers are facilitated with separate lounges having high-standard facilities. For high-level passengers, there is a separate Rawal Lounge available.
The passengers are facilitated with many duty-free shops, cafes, and restaurants. Television monitors and mobile charging points are also in numbers. Foreign exchange counters, well-known banks, and ATM machines are available to facilitate the passengers of all kind. There is also a separate ‘Smoking Area’ for the smokers.
Overall, Benazir Bhutto International Airport is a well-designed and well-managed airport with all the required facilities.
